Converging Lens or Convex Lens

Concept Explanation

Converging Lens or Convex Lens

It is the lens which is thicker in the middle than at the edges. A beam of parallel rays of light falls on a convex lens from the left side. After passing through the convex lens, the beam of parallel rays of light converges at a point . Hence, a convex lens is a converging lens.

Image formed by convex lens :

The nature of the image  formed by a convex lens varies as the  distance of the object from the  lens changes. When an object is placed at a far off distance from the convex lens, then the image formed by the convex lens is real, inverted and much smaller than the object.

When we place the object closer to the lens then the image formed will be erect and magnified.

Uses of convex lens :

  • Convex lens are used as magnifying glass.
  •  In the manufacturing of spectacles, camera, telescope and binoculars, convex lenses are used.
